Ready Your Troops: Battle of Isandlwana

Topic 1 - Resisting British Colonialism

In 1878, the Zulu kingdom faced the threat of British colonial expansion in South Africa. Being one of the only local political entities that had a centralized rule, the Zulu kingdom has the potential to resist further British expansion.  Although the British possessed more technologically-advanced weaponry, a victory was not impossible for the formidable Zulu warriors with the right strategy combined with their spirit in defending the homeland against the intruders. Besides defeating the British through military means, delegates are encouraged to explore more innovative ways such as alliance buildings or diplomatic negotiations.

Topic 2 - Domestic Reforms

Establishing itself through military victories over neighboring tribes, the Zulu kingdom claimed a political entity but still yet to expand its political institutions. In order to increase the Zulu kingdom’s sovereignty to counter the threat of a British invasion, delegates must work toward consolidating the regime and address other issues such as multicultural inclusion for non-Zulu people within its borders.
