Special Political and Decolonization Committee (SPECPOL)

Topic 1 - Autonomous Regions

Across the world, autonomous regions have varying degrees of autonomy when it comes to economy, the legislature, currency, and more. Sometimes, these autonomous regions are enclaves of ethnic and religious minorities that desire independence as the result of discrimination and persecution. SPECPOL has a responsibility to protect autonomous regions and can do so by supporting self-determination, facilitating dialogue, and monitoring the human rights situations within these areas. How can the United Nations, along with all member states, support the rights and aspirations of autonomous regions?

Topic 2 - Effects of Atomic Radiation

While most scientists consider nuclear power to be a sustainable source of energy, this technology has the potential to cause real harm. Through radioactive leaks and unsafe security measures, toxic materials can and do escape into the community. This contamination can be devastating, causing birth defects and other diseases. How can SPECPOL, along with its state and private partners, encourage the safe use of nuclear energy while protecting civilians?
