Since the 6th century BCE, the legendary Three Crowned Tamilakam kingdoms—Chera, Chola, and Pandya—have held a balance of power in the Southern Indian subcontinent, resisting conquest from the northern Gupta and Maruya empires. Known for their trade of Ayurvedic herbs, these Tamil kingdoms have been the historic lynchpin for the cultivation, trade, and global spread of spices. However in the late 10th century CE, a new dynasty of Cholas under Raja Raja I threatens to expand and throw centuries of careful balance out of order.
Topic 1 - Nobody Conquers the Tamil Kings
Raja Raja I has just inherited the small Chola kingdom and seeks to expand into the Tamilakam. A capable military leader and administrator, Tamil leaders believe Raja Raja I plans to expand his holdings into the Ganga dynasty. If successful, Cholas could potentially take control of other autonomous kingdoms including the Chera. Additionally, Tamil soldiers have reportedly arrived en masse to Sri Lanka, causing rumors of an impending invasion.
Topic 2 - Merchants
New medieval trading guides have shaken up the Tamilakam. Notably, the Five Hundred Lords of Ayyavole have emerged with an umbrella control of trade in the southern subcontinent. However, rival guilds such as the religiously diverse Anjuvannam still control the immensely profitable Arabian trade. Moreover, increased demands for trade in the East have prompted naval scuffles in Sumatra and a new diplomatic relationship with China.
Committee Procedures
This committee will be run following Specialized Agency Parliamentary Procedure. Debate will be primarily organized using moderated caucuses, unmoderated caucuses, and speaker’s list. Unlike a General Assembly, delegates should not expect to set an order of topics through voting in Committee Session I—all topics are up for debate. Borrowing crisis elements—as is the norm for a Specialized Agency—delegates will be expected to continuously complete rounds of public directives that will respond to crisis updates. Delegates will NOT be writing working papers or draft resolutions. Committee Director:
